Instructions

Registration for the 2014 Challenge is open. Schools are registered when a student enters a book into an online Student Reading Record.

Government Schools

Existing coordinators logon using their DEC username and password.
New coordinators - principals nominate their school's coordinator using the Access Management Utility (AMU) via the DEC Portal. Coordinators then logon using their DEC username and password. Relieving principals contact the ICT Help Desk for access to AMU.

Non-Government Schools

New process for registering all existing and new non-gov coordinators:

Existing Non-Gov coordinator registration
 (full instructions)

  1. Principal logs in to their Extranet/Portal (same as accessing SMART) and goes to SMU
  2. Search for the staff member and extend their expiry date to 28/02/2015
  3. Reset the staff member's password and advise them of their username and password
  4. Return to Extranet/Portal and go to AMU. Select PRC and press Next. If PRC is not visible, select AMU, select yourself as PRC Authoriser, logout and log back in. Repeat Step 4.
  5. Search for the staff member and place a tick against their name as PRC Coordinator.

Coordinators can then login to the Extranet/Portal and set up their secret questions and answers so they can reset and manage their password if it stops working or is forgotten. They can access the PRC website via the Extranet/Portal (full instructions).

New non-gov coordinator registration (full instructions)

  1. Principal logs in to their Extranet/Portal (same as accessing SMART) and goes to SMU
  2. Search for the staff member. If not found, add staff member and set expiry date to 28/02/2015
  3. Staff member's username and password are emailed to principal and staff member
  4. Return to Extranet/Portal and go to AMU. Select PRC and press Next. If PRC is not visible, select AMU, select yourself as PRC Authoriser, logout and log back in. Repeat Step 4.
  5. Search for the staff member and place a tick against their name as PRC Coordinator.


Non-Gov students who participated last year logon with their existing PRC username and password.
New students need to have their details uploaded by the school PRC coordinator. Your coordinator will then give you your own PRC username and password to logon to your reading record.

Existing Homeschool students continue to use their PRC usernames and passwords.
New Homeschools download the application form and email the completed form to prc@det.nsw.edu.au
